The Upper Salmon Conservation Action Program is a unique partnership between Jervois Mining and the Idaho Conservation League to fund restoration work in the Upper Salmon River Basin.
The Program (also referred to as USCAP) funds projects focused on the protection and restoration of fisheries, water quality, wildlife habitat, and biodiversity in this region. Projects funded by the Program are separate from and unrelated to mitigation measures and other regulatory requirements applicable to Jervois’ ongoing Idaho Cobalt Operations mine near Salmon, ID.
The Salmon River and its tributaries are iconic waterways that support important populations of anadromous fish species, including endangered steelhead and Chinook and sockeye salmon. These waterways and the fish and wildlife they support also play a centrally important role for the Tribes that have relied on these resources for millenia.
The USCAP provides a complementary source of restoration funding in this region to the larger, established funding sources for fisheries work from the Bonneville Power Administration and the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund. USCAP funding can be used as a non-federal match for other grant funds and can help fill in existing restoration gaps for sometimes overlooked tributaries such as the East Fork of the Salmon River and Panther Creek. All of our projects are selected through a rigorous review process.
